This year’s beauty / fantasy competition theme is Gothic, referring to the gothic beauty palettes that appeared in recent runway shows (the emphasis is on creating a pretty, rather than scary, gothic look).

The beauty / fantasy competition takes place on Saturday. The time limit for the beauty competition is 2 hours.

The character / prosthetic competition theme, X-Men Mutants, pays tribute to Mike Elizalde, a London IMATS keynote speaker and a Los Angeles-based make-up designer who worked on X-Men: The Last Stand.

The character / prosthetic competition takes place on Sunday and deals with prosthetic applications and bald caps. The time limit for the character competition is three hours. No outside prosthetics are allowed, only the ones supplied by the Show.
